Since you have accepted Jesus Christ, the next step in your story is to be baptized in water. Jesus, in fact, commands us to do so. Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…”
Baptism, however, is more than an act of obedience. Water baptism is a living picture of what Jesus did for you in His death, burial, and resurrection. Your immersion in water symbolizes that your old life is dead and buried. Coming up out of the water symbolizes your being raised in Christ to a brand new life with Him as your Lord. Baptism helps you solidify the commitment you have made by serving as a public testimony that you now identify yourself with Jesus and live for Him.
Here are some additional verses on water baptism and the scripture pattern of baptism that we follow. Matthew 6:15, Mark 16:16; Acts 8:38-39; 10:47,48; Romans 6:4.
