Your decision to dedicate your child(ren) to the Lord is a chapter in your story and their story that will be returned to throughout their childhood.  Dedicating children to the Lord is modeled in the Bible.
Luke 2:22 Then it was time for the purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
Dedicating a child(ren) to the Lord brings a prayer of blessing and protection on the child by the Pastor leading the dedication, but is only a small part of what it means.  Parents are also dedicating themselves to a charge to raise their child in the wisdom of God’s Word and to provide for the child the opportunities for a response to the saving knowledge of Christ.
Proverbs 22:6 says, Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.  That dedication and commitment is prayed over and affirmed.
Here are some additional verses on Child Dedication you will find helpful.  Exodus 13:2; Jeremiah 29:11; 1 Samuel 1:11, 26-28; Mark 10:13-16; 1 Peter 5:5
